Segara Anak is a lake located at an altitude above 2,000 m. Yes, because Segara Anak Lake is a crater lake of Mount Rinjani which has an altitude of 3,726 m above sea level. The location of Segara Anak lake is administratively in the village of Sembalun Lawang, Lombok island, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
The name Segara
Anak means sea child given to it because its blue color reminds sea
lakes. Segara Anak Lake covers an area of 1,100 ha with a depth of 230
m. Uniquely, in the caldera of Mount Rinjani, a mountain named Mount
Barujari or also often referred to as Mount Anak Rinjani is formed, a
new mountain located in the caldera to the east of the tourist area.
Mount Barujari was formed in 1944 with a crater width of about 170
meters and a length of 200 meters, while its height reaches 2,296-2,376
masl.
This uniqueness is what makes Mount Rinjani the most beautiful mountain in Indonesia. In the area around Mount Rinjani National Park, there are about 500 species of endemic plants. The national park which is managed by the Rinjani Tracking Management Board, involves the local residents actively.
Segara Anak Lake also drains its water downwards and one of them is through Penimbungan Waterfall which has a height of 100 meters, Penimbungan is the highest waterfall in Lombok whose beauty can be enjoyed from a distance. Hikers are even advised not to approach the waterfall directly because of the steep and slippery terrain. As an international tourist destination, of course, this area is already listed on Google Maps to facilitate search.
